Join us on August 19 for the next session in the "Promoting Chemistry Applied to World Needs" webinar series, hosted by Beyond Benign and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) on the joint program of “Chemical Research Applied to World Needs” (CHEMRAWN).
Prof. Chia C. Wang, Director of our Aerosol Science Research Center (ASRC) at National Sun Yat-sen University, will share with us how aerosols, the fine suspension of particulate matter, shape air quality, climate, public health, and ecosystems across molecular, cellular, environmental, and societal scales. She will propose and introduce a new concept of Aerosphere — a systems framework developed at ASRC that considers “aerosols” as an essential interface connecting Earth's other systems, including Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Lithosphere, Biosphere, and Anthroposphere.
Prof. Wang will also introduce the “AeroMUSIC co-Learning Program” developed under ASRC, which is a multidisciplinary education program that combines science, art, and community engagement to strengthen public understanding of aerosol science. Here, MUSIC is an acronym representing the five co-learning groups, including Museum and Library, Universities, K-12 Schools, Industry, and various NGO/NPO Communities and professional societies. Using “airborne transmission of virus-laden aerosols” as an example, Prof. Wang will share the experience of how ASRC team translates complex scientific knowledge of aerosol chemistry and its applied science could be translated into accessible and effective public health communication — raising the public awareness of air quality, sustainability and the meaning of One Health, which may eventually translate to policy making and global action to safeguard the public health and our overall environmental ecosystem.
