2025.2.4 2025 ALOHA! Sustainability Winter Camp: Science–Art Exploration and STEAM Seed Teacher Training

In response to the escalating crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, National Sun Yat-sen University partnered with the Yan T. Lee Foundation to launch the "2025 ALOHA! Sustainability Winter Camp." Structured around five key domains—Aerosols, Land, Ocean, Human, and Air—the program aimed to strengthen public literacy in sustainability science through interdisciplinary learning.

2025.6.25 Breathing and Air Quality Sustainability: An IDG Self-Awareness Workshop

2025.10.3 2025 SDGs × IDGs International Workshop: Exploring Planetary Health through a Quantum Perspective

2025.10.18 2025 SDGs × IDGs Eco-Body-Mind Workshop Series – Rediscovering Athena's Gift: Mediterranean Sustainable Eating and Mind–Body Purification

Guided by the core principles of the SDGs and IDGs, this workshop centered on two interconnected themes: the Mediterranean sustainable diet and mind–body renewal. Participants were invited to explore the dynamic relationship between healthy eating, sustainable living, and inner balance. Through ingredient-based learning, olive oil education, cooking demonstrations, mindful breathing, and meditation practices, the program encouraged participants to begin with everyday food choices and experience how personal health, environmental sustainability, and inner well-being can be aligned in practice. The workshop was further enriched by its integration with the Mu-Yu Zhong-Lin Mindfulness Center, where concepts of green architecture, environmentally friendly design, and sustainable operations were demonstrated. This immersive setting supported participants in translating sustainability from individual lifestyle choices into a broader ecological awareness and way of living.

2025.11.22 2025 SDGs × IDGs Eco-Body-Mind Workshop Series – Sustainable Food: Cocoa as a Medium of Connection

Framed by the principles of the SDGs and IDGs, this workshop used cocoa as a medium to explore nourishment, sustainability, and inner awareness. Participants were guided to understand the cultural significance of cocoa, its relationship with sustainable agriculture, and its potential role in supporting emotional and psychological balance. Through multisensory tasting, cocoa-based cuisine, hands-on cocoa butter crafting, and bean-grinding experiences, the program invited participants to reconnect with nature, the land, and their own emotional states, cultivating a form of sustainable living that extends from food to inner well-being. The workshop also featured a ceremonial cocoa ritual, creating space for reflection, grounding, and gratitude—for the Earth, rain, sunlight, and air—while encouraging participants to rediscover a sense of harmony and coexistence with the natural world.

2025.12.20 Resonating with Terroir: A Farm-Based Mind–Body Food Healing Experience

This workshop was designed around the concept that inner transformation can drive outer sustainability. Participants were guided into a long-practiced natural farming field following the Shumei method, where no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used. Through observing the resilience of plants taking root, participants reflected on the relationship between humans and the land. The program integrated guided somatic practices, including breath awareness and sound resonance, creating a space for participants to reset physically and mentally within the rhythms of nature. By exploring the connections between food, emotion, and consciousness, and concluding with a shared hands-on experience of crafting and eating energy-infused rice balls, the workshop translated abstract sustainability concepts into tangible lived experience—reconnecting participants with the harmony between body, land, and environment.

2025.11.01 A New Hope in Extreme Climate: The Journey of Biochar – Eco-Dyeing Workshop

Organized by the Aerosol Science Research Center in collaboration with TCHAR, this workshop centered on biochar dyeing as its core practice. It aimed to engage both young participants aged 7–12 and the general public through hands-on creative experiences, helping them develop a deeper understanding of climate issues while cultivating both awareness and action toward sustainability. Through activities such as textile dyeing, bookmark creation, and interactive SDG-themed games like the "Sustainability Tree," participants experienced sustainability as something that can take root in everyday life, rather than remaining an abstract concept or slogan. 

2025. 12.12 Sustainable Sewing Party: Handmade Creation Workshop

Organized by the Aerosol Science Research Center in collaboration with the Office of Personnel at National Sun Yat-sen University, this workshop promoted the concepts of "slow fashion" and a minimalist lifestyle. Through hands-on instruction in basic sewing techniques, participants were empowered to repair and create their own textile items, reducing reliance on fast fashion from the source. The workshop emphasized the principle of making full use of materials, encouraging participants to select quality fabrics and build a deeper connection with the objects they use. By engaging in the process of making, participants were guided to appreciate resources, reduce overconsumption, and integrate sustainable values into everyday life.

2025.10.17 Human-Centered Technology and Information Applications: The Role of IDG Community Partnerships in Service Design

Designed and led by Visiting Assistant Professor Chin-Ling Chu of National Sun Yat-sen University, this workshop explored how the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) can inform the practical application of information technologies within long-term residential care settings. In response to the challenges of an aging society, the program emphasized that technology development should move beyond functional efficiency toward human-centered home support systems. A senior long-term care nurse was invited to share frontline experience, while an immersive board game guided participants to better understand the emotional and social needs of elderly individuals in their living environments. The workshop aimed to cultivate developers with empathy and systems thinking, encouraging a shift in perspective—from viewing information systems as mere tools to recognizing them as companions that support quality of life. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, participants were inspired to explore how technology can contribute to building living environments that are healthier, safer, and grounded in human care, bringing IDG principles into future smart care innovations.

2025.10.30 Multiple Roles and Transitions in Life: An IDG Perspective on Social-Ecological Resilience

Designed and led by Dr. Chin-Ling Chu, Visiting Assistant Professor at the Aerosol Science Research Center, this workshop guided participants to reflect from a broader perspective on how human societies have developed resilient living systems in response to environmental change. Looking back at how earlier societies confronted natural challenges such as floods and wildfires, the session explored how scientific observation and lived experience gave rise to adaptive solutions, including floodgates, breakwaters, and seasonal practices—demonstrating ways of living in alignment with nature. Grounded in IDG competencies such as systems thinking and awareness, the workshop aimed to cultivate a sense of gratitude toward the environment and a deeper sense of responsibility. By examining historical technologies and everyday objects, participants were encouraged to build inner resilience, enabling them to navigate future life transitions and roles while contributing to a more sustainable and harmonious coexistence with the Earth.

2025.11.1 A New Hope in an Era of Extreme Climate: The Remarkable Journey of Biochar as a Climate Solution

Organized by the Aerosol Science Research Center in collaboration with Honorary Chair Professor and Visiting Professor Hsun-Ling Bai, Chief Knowledge Officer Yu-Yen Lee of TCHAR, and Dr. Chin-Ling Chu, Visiting Assistant Professor at National Sun Yat-sen University, this workshop engaged students (junior high school level and above) and the general public in exploring climate solutions through interactive simulation. Using the En-ROADS Climate Simulator developed by MIT, participants adjusted policy parameters and observed how different strategies could contribute to achieving the 1.5°C climate target. Framed as an interactive, game-based experience, the session provided an accessible entry point for understanding the SDGs and global climate challenges. The workshop also highlighted the critical role of biochar in climate mitigation, while encouraging participants to transform climate anxiety into informed, actionable responses.

2025.11.3/10/17 Instinct and Inner Power: A Three-Part Online Course Series

The Aerosol Science Research Center was honored to invite Paul Chan, Founder of Creative Coaching Ltd. and Co-founder of PLUS Knowledge / ComfyMinds Lab, to lead this three-part online course series. The program guided participants in exploring and transforming three fundamental human instincts: self-preservation, social connection, and sexuality/creativity. Grounded in the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) framework, the course unfolded as a progressive inner journey—from awakening awareness of these instincts, to releasing imbalanced patterns, and ultimately transforming their underlying energy. The course aimed to support participants in cultivating inner balance, enabling them to shift from being unconsciously driven by instinct to embodying a more stable and authentic life force, thereby establishing a strong personal foundation for sustainable action.

2025.10.21 IDGs Employee Well-being Workshop I: Who Took Away My Good Mood? Self-Care for Highly Sensitive Individuals

Designed and led by Dr. Chin-Ling Chu, Visiting Assistant Professor at the Aerosol Science Research Center, this workshop was tailored for employees with high sensitivity or strong emotional awareness. It aimed to support participants in understanding and effectively managing their emotional dynamics. Through tools such as emotional mapping, sensory-based self-care practices, and a structured five-stage approach to emotional processing (informed by PTSD self-regulation techniques), participants were guided to explore the origins of their emotional responses within a safe and supportive group setting. The workshop sought to help participants build an internal support system, reduce self-blame, and cultivate a more grounded and resilient way of navigating workplace stress.

2025.11.18 IDGs Employee Well-being Workshop II: Is Miscommunication Inevitable? A Neuroscience Approach to Compassionate Communication

Designed and led by Dr. Chin-Ling Chu, Visiting Assistant Professor at the Aerosol Science Research Center, this workshop applied the Brain Region Dominance Model to help faculty and staff reinterpret communication challenges in the workplace. Participants were guided to understand that interactions often perceived as "difficult" or "uncooperative" may arise not from personal intent, but from differences in cognitive processing shaped by role-based demands—such as logic-driven tasks versus relationship-oriented responsibilities. By introducing this neuroscience-informed perspective, the workshop aimed to reduce interpersonal misunderstandings, foster greater empathy, and promote more constructive and effective collaboration among colleagues.

2025.11.19 Mindful Leadership from Within: Building an ESG-Oriented Sustainable Campus

Organized by the Aerosol Science Research Center in collaboration with the Office of Personnel at National Sun Yat-sen University, this workshop addressed the governance challenges faced by university administrators amid rapid change, sustainability transitions, and increasing institutional complexity. Targeting administrative leaders as its primary audience, the program focused on the practice of Mindful Leadership and the application of the Inner Development Goals (IDGs). It emphasized cultivating inner awareness, emotional resilience, and relational capacity among educational leaders. By strengthening these inner competencies, the workshop aimed to support administrators in navigating high-pressure decision-making, cross-departmental collaboration, and interpersonal communication—key challenges encountered in advancing SDGs, ESG initiatives, and sustainable campus governance.

2025.9.27 2025 SDGs × IDGs Eco-Body-Mind Workshop – A Date Between the Microcosm and Nature

Organized by the Aerosol Science Research Center at National Sun Yat-sen University in collaboration with the Mu-Yu Zhong-Lin Mindfulness Education Center, this workshop invited participants to experience a reflective "date" between the microcosm and the natural world. Grounded in the core principles of the SDGs and IDGs, the program immersed participants in a natural setting, where mindful breathing and conscious eating served as entry points for re-examining the relationships between humans and nature, the self, others, and the broader web of life. Framing the human body as a microcosm within the larger macrocosm of the environment, the workshop emphasized the continuous exchange of matter and information through sensory experience. By cultivating inner awareness and maintaining a deeper connection with nature, participants were encouraged to align inner development with sustainable action, fostering a more harmonious relationship between individuals, society, and the Earth.

2025.11.22-23 Green Theatre (Green Book) Sustainable Production – “Butterfly Huanting”

"Butterfly Huanting," the annual production created by faculty and students of the Department of Theatre Arts at National Sun Yat-sen University, was co-organized by the Aerosol Science Research Center and supported by the Ministry of Culture. The production marked a milestone as the first university-level theatre work in Taiwan to adopt the Green Theatre "Green Book" sustainability guidelines, demonstrating how the performing arts can actively respond to contemporary challenges. Centered on the ethics of genetic engineering and extending into broader ecological concerns, the production employed multi-layered narratives and symbolic language to explore the complex relationship between humanity and nature. The story follows a female scientist who, after losing her daughter to a rare disease, turns to DNA modification in an attempt to challenge fate—only to find herself entangled in a web of ethical dilemmas and human desire. As her research attracts commercial interest, the narrative reveals how grief and ambition can drive humanity to intervene in and manipulate natural systems. Interwoven with elements of fantasy, the protagonist journeys through parallel realms, including a mythical kingdom in the Yellow Butterfly Valley, where she encounters nature spirits and begins to re-examine human behavior from a non-human perspective.

2025.12.17/12.22 Music & Reading Salon – "The Song Still Lives On: Exploring Emotion and the Power of Sustainability through Taiwanese Pop Music"

Organized by the Aerosol Science Research Center in collaboration with the Office of Personnel at National Sun Yat-sen University, this music-based reading salon featured Professor Mei-Wen Lee as the keynote speaker. Through the theme "The Song Still Lives On," Taiwanese popular songs were approached as carriers of cultural memory. By engaging in close listening and reflective discussion of familiar melodies, participants were guided to revisit their personal life journeys alongside shared social memories. Within this emotional landscape, the program created space for reflection, connection, and a sense of grounded well-being—embodying the idea of "emotional sustainability." As a core component of the Social and Emotional Support Lecture Series, the event aligned with the SDGs' emphasis on health and well-being. It further integrated the Inner Development Goals (IDGs), using collective reading and shared musical experience to strengthen participants’ capacities for Being and Relating, extending the concept of sustainability from external environmental action to inner resilience.

2025.12.26 Sustainable Earth Film Series – "Together, Soul of Soil"

Amid the intensifying challenges of global climate change and ecological crises, sustainability is no longer a slogan, but a test of whether humanity is truly willing to change for the well-being of the Earth. To open the "2025 SDG × IDG Sustainable Earth Film Series," the Aerosol Science Research Center featured the Golden Horse Awards–nominated documentary Together, Soul of Soil, accompanied by a post-screening talk with the film's protagonist, An-He. The documentary traces An-He's forty-year journey of natural farming—one that rejects high-yield production and chemical inputs in favor of working with time to restore the soil's structure and vitality. Through this narrative, participants were invited to reflect on the relationship between humans and nature, beginning from the land and agricultural practice.
